Hi, I’m Pamela and thanks for visiting my site. I guess I’m now considered a senior adult or maybe senior citizen, older adult, aging adult, baby boomer, or just a boomer. I don’t really care for any of those labels. I’m me just older.

Life Is Always Changing

Several years ago the Rheumatoid Arthritis I had been diagnosed with decided it wasn’t going to play nice anymore and life changed. The things I thought were under control suddenly weren’t anymore. Life became more about doctor visits and trying different treatments, adding supplements, and changing eating. I tried to do all the things I could.

It’s been a long road to getting the pain and fatigue under control but I’ve had some real improvements and when everything is working well it has given me my life back. There are however some things that I can’t change and that is the deformity of my hands and and to a lesser extent my feet.

So, I try not to but I get pretty frustrated when I can’t do the things I used to do.

Opening jars and bottles
Fastening buttons
Turning door knobs
Opening some packaging (I mean come on now, some packaging is awful)
Using zippers
I could go on but you get the idea.

I’m learning to make adjustments and find a work around or some kind of tool to help make things doable on my own without having to ask for help.

I Am Getting Older

I am very fortunate to be in a position to be able to able to build my own house, a house in which I can age in place. This is thanks in no small part to my son and daughter-in-law.

It’s going to be a small house for easy maintenance. Two story but on the first floor there will be the master bedroom and bath and I’m following ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) guidelines for housing. So I’ve been learning a lot about what it takes to make a home livable if I need a wheelchair or walker, hopefully a long time from now and maybe never but I’ll be prepared.

And being prepared is the best thing because LIFE CHANGES.

I’m trying to look at all these things with an open mind. I don’t like to think that I’m getting older. It sure is easy to think I’ll figure it out when I need it or procrastinate and not deal with the inevitable but I think it will be easier and more affordable if I start to address some of these things now rather than later.

So, I’m hoping you’ll join me on this journey as I try to figure out…

How can I make getting older easier?

Pamela
